Its aim is to foster dialogue between those working on biblical texts across the Humanities. Past international research projects (for which external funding has been secured and from which publications have been forthcoming) include Perspectives on the Passion (Continuum 2007); From the Margins: Biblical Women and their Afterlives (Sheffield Phoenix 2009); and The Decalogue and its Cultural Influence (Sheffield Phoenix 2013). In addition to the above projects, we have also organised various day conferences, such as ‘Texts in Transit: The Cultural Afterlife of the King James Bible’, to mark the 400th anniversary of the KJB in 2011.
Significant international collaborations have been established as a result of the Centre’s activities, with involvement from scholars in Art History, Theology, Music, English, German, Law and Classics. We are actively involved in organising several programme units at the Society of Biblical Literature Annual Meetings in the USA (‘Bible and Visual Art’; ‘Use, Influence and Impact of the Bible’), and also established the ‘New Testament: Use and Influence’ seminar group at the annual British New Testament Conference.
